Permuda Island is only accessible by water and is comprised of 63 acres and about 1.5 miles in length. The island is historically known for its Holocene and Pleistocene sands, silts, and clays. Archaeological findings date back to around 300 B.C. Shorebirds such as egrets, herons, black skimmers, sandpipers frequent the surrounding marsh and mudflats. River otters can also be spotted occasionally in these marsh and sound areas. It is a favorite spot for those who like to kayak, canoe, birdwatch, and for nature enthusiasts alike.
