Surf City, NC

Surf City, North Carolina has a catchphrase, "Big enough to be competitive, small enough to be happy" which sums up this little piece of paradise. Located in the heart of Topsail Island, Surf City is the largest town in the Topsail area with just under 2000 residents and is the more commercial area of the island.

Incorporated in 1949, Surf City was largely influenced by the area's growing military presence. With this growth came the expansion of unique shops, exquisite restaurants, excellent fishing, local golf courses, bike paths, public boat ramps, miniature golf, and many more wonderful amenities.

In addition to the many amenities that Surf City has to offer, visitors and residents alike enjoy its gorgeous Atlantic beaches as well as the calmer, quieter soundside areas of this part of the island. Surf City boasts a family-friendly atmosphere in a laid-back coastal location. Once here, it's easy to see why this hidden treasure is a beloved vacation and relocation destination.

Surf City is home to one of North Carolina's remaining operational swing bridges, which opens on the hour for commercial boat traffic. In that same area is Soundside Park which is a local favorite with stunning views of the Intracoastal Waterway. The park offers family-friendly activities for all ages. The local parks and recreation department offers a full schedule of activities throughout the year. There are pavilions and an amphitheater that hosts outdoor movies and concerts throughout the summer months. The park is also an outreach site by the North Carolina Aquarium and its programs.

The Surf City Pier is Topsail Island's first ocean pier. The pier is 937 feet long with a 40-foot octagonal area on the end, two fish-cleaning stations, fresh running water, a fully stocked bait and tackle shop, as well as an assortment of souvenirs and a dining area (which serves up some great grilled burgers).

Surf City is divided between Pender and Onslow counties. Information on the school systems can be found at http://www.pendercountyschools.org/ and http://onslowcounty.schoolinsites.com/.
