Sneads Ferry, North Carolina is a quaint waterside village located on the mainland with a reputation for fresh local seafood and a unique maritime history. Visitors and residents enjoy the town's quiet and welcoming atmosphere combined with its natural charm and beauty.
The town was established in 1775, though it became an established ferry site in 1728. The ferry was an essential link in the Post Road as it served as a liaison between Suffolk, VA and Charleston, SC. Two ferries, one from each bank of the New River, were in operation here by 1759. Proprietor Robert Snead handled the ferry on the north shore, which lead to a community being established and the town being named in his honor. The ferry continued to run until 1939 when it was replaced with a bridge.

As previously mentioned, fresh local seafood is abundant here. In addition to the local restaurants that serve up the freshest fare, there are also many fresh seafood establishments offering everything right off the boat including shrimp, clams, oysters, scallops, hard-shell crabs, and soft-shell crabs.
